GearUP Notes

So here are some of my comments from GearUp 2008, which I certainly can tell you, won't be in the slides you can download. Smiley Very Happy

Poor Jeff Bonifaci (jbonifaci), finally found a casino that he has lost in, one night of poker. Also was moving slowly yesterday, but then the amount of alcohol he had Wednesday, not a surprise.

Adam Stoller (ghoti) was stopped at one of the sessions to have his picture taken with someone. I would not be surprised to hear that an autograph was requested as well. He is the only one I know that would whine about winning the grand prize (2 plane tickets anywhere and 5 nights in a luxury hotel) because he wanted the Mac powerbook instead.

It was fun meeting Bo (ICSBorisB) though I really wanted to hear him say "I will make big trouble for moose and squirrel" (anyone who has met Bo and are in their 40s will know what I mean).

Patrick (patrickm) did quite a nice presentation on BT, but one point, lose the tie. You looked uncomfortable and we are all geeks anyway.

Rob (robhuffstedtler) - nice presentation, however my name is pronounced with the K (ca-nip) not (nip)

Srinivas, Heather, Sunil, Todd (and many others) always a pleasure.

Will, one piece of advice, don't quite your day job to try out for American Idol.

It was great to meet everyone. There were many more that I talked to and am not listing here.

From time to time, members ask what is the point of attending GearUp? That’s difficult to quantify.

Those who attend have unique experiences and derive varying degrees of value from them.

However, every attendee will acknowledge that GearUp is the event to experience the human side of the Interwoven family of products and solutions. Meet, Learn, Explore, Rejuvenate, Network….these are all verbs that describe GearUp.

For me personally, I met more individual members of DevNet in just a few days than I have since I began moderating a year and a half ago. They have given me some very good insight into the ways they interact with our social network which will translate into continued improvements in your DevNet experience. (Here, I need to single out Stacy Han and Bill Klish for giving me some very constructive feedback.)

I want to personally thank all of our members who came this year and especially those who presented or participated on a panel--Patrick Mooney, Bill Klish, Kevin McMonagle, Robert Huffstedtler, Kozo Tsukada, Jennifer Terbosic, Phillip von Criegern, Andy Knipp, Chandra Ilindra, and there are most assuredly others I'm forgetting.

Next year, GearUp will be held in San Antonio. When you’re contemplating making the trip, think to yourself, “How important is field of Enterprise Content Management to me in the work that I do?” and “How will interacting with the industry’s leading experts in this area energize me, and enable me to be more effective?”

I hope to see you all in Texas in 2009.

Hi Everyone,

I also had a great time at GearUp this year. I really look forward to the opportunity to meet everyone face to face, and I hope that it is something that we can do more frequently.

Some of my personal highlights were:

Handing out leftover pizza from the Developer Appreciation night to San Francisco's homeless community on the way back to the hotel with David Ruiz and Patrick Mooney.

Seeing everyone's Wii skills at the Partner Pavilion Pod

The Gala - and having my taro and numbers read. Loads of fun, and pretty insightful.

The presentations were all really great. It was a great culmination of many months of hard work for lots of us, and it was great to hear all the exciting things that are coming and how people are using Interwoven products.

Since he didn't give himself Kudo's - I thought Andy did a great job on his presentation along with Cory Kim.
I thought Patrick did a great job as well - and he looked very sharp! For those who haven't attended the event in Europe - there is a very different dress code in Europe, and presenters and attendees both typically wear suits (and tuxedos at the gala). It brings a different flair to what is normally a t-shirt and shirts event.

I have never seen so many questions at a GearUp - I was really impressed with the level of attention that was being paid to everything even after late nights and early mornings.

I really liked the 4-hour work week presentation. It made me take a second thought at how I approach things.

It was great - I hope that everyone else also enjoyed it and learned a lot.
