Character limit for a DCT text area

Could anyone tell the max allowed characters that could be stored in a textarea of a DCT? We have a requirement where we would like an unlimited no. of characters in a textarea for Db deployment to CLOB datatype and wondering if there is a set limit for that.

A CLOB value can be up to 2,147,483,647 characters long, from the DCT end a textarea can take as many characters unless you restrict max.
Correct me if I am wrong.

Come on, you just made that up. :-)

I suspect you will hit one of many system limitations before you hit this limitation.

For example, on my system I have a DCR that is getting about 200 KB long (160 replicants currently). Using IE 7 I get a bunch of javascript when I click edit (even if I turn off formapi) but it works in IE6 and in Firefox.

You will also get web timeouts (usually 5 minutes) if you have something that takes a long time to load. Obviously one cannot give an accurate limit since that depends on your network response time.

I agree with you that we would run into issues if we have too many characters in the textarea.

If the requirement says unlimited characters and clob datatype from the intial post I was trying to say max character length involved.

and regarding the clob character count I referred to "http://db.apache.org/derby/docs/dev/ref/rrefclob.html" before posting it.
