MB Restore Process Error

My MB Restore process end up in error

[Old Server]- MB-I [/MB and SQL are on same box]

MB 4.5

SQL 2000

WIN 200K

[New Server]- MB-II

MB4.6.1 (Win 2K3) running on 32 Bit Server

SQL 2005 , Cluster running on 64 Bit Server

I followed the IW-support instructions

1. Back Up – MB-I

2. Install MB4.5 on MB –II

3. Restore MB-I back up on MB-II (from Step-I)

4. Upgrade Server –II to 4.6.1

I competed the Step-I and step -II

But the step-III end up with error.

Any similar issues ? how to resolve ?

There might be ODBC driver issues involved with moving from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. I am not sure if engineering has ever tested the restore script with this use case.

I have previously done such a migration manually with the help of customer's DBA team. The DBA's would do the necessary magic to move the DB from 2K to 2K5 and we would install and upgrade MB.

I do not have the detailed steps but I wanted to add that the database restore being attempted is purely in the realm of SQL and does not involve and MB specific steps, so the customer's DBA should be prepared to help move the DB from point A to point B. The challenge here is that you are changing both the database server and version.

I am working with DBA’s to move the DB ( db name - Median Repository )

from one server to another server . we are almost success in this.

I have coupe of questions before doing another MB installation.

Any other databases need to copy other than the DB ( db name - Median Repository )
How about setting the “MBDataDirectory”

( Simply copy and share or to do any other settings)

Any other MB setting required ?

How to set the permission to folder and tasks?

If you are going to move your MB asset server to a different machine then yes you will have to (at least recommended to avoid confusion) move the MBDataDirectory also.

Typically what I do is do a dummy/clean install on the new machine (with new/blank DB and MBDataDirectory) and then change the settings for DB and MBDataDirectory to point to the new location. And then do the upgrade to 4.6.1
