What are the pro & cons of MetaTagger

Hi, I am new to the DevNet and working on TS 6.7.1
We are looking at possibilities using MetaTagger in future so wanted to know what it does, what benefits would a GUI User get out of it and how does it benefit the site? Does a user need to fill in the metadata on the page even after this? Is it important for SEO perpose, if yes, how?
PS: I have already read the marketing content on the Interwoven website but want to know how it works on the ground level so grateful if anyone can help me out here.

Disclaimer - I work for Interwoven on MetaTagger, so you might want to see comments from others as well.
MetaTagger (as opposed to TeamSite TagUI) has two uses: as a taxonomy management tool for TagUI and as a content analysis tool. It is *not* a metadata entry tool (that's TeamSite's TagUI).
Here are some of the applications I have seen MT put to:
- Creating and Managing Taxonomies for use in TagUI. Examples of taxonomies include content type, topic categories, product lists, ...
- Speeding up the metadata entry process by automatically categorizing, summarizing, extracting keywords ...
- Adding additional keywords based on taxonomy-category mapping for SEO
- Enabling TeamSite Workflow to route content based on content analysis (e.g. auto-moderation, subject matter expert ...)

The biggest benefit of MetaTagger from our standpoint is for our own search applications. With MetaTagger we can automatically tag content for the publishers so they don't have to worry about getting the "right" keywords or categories associated to a particular piece of content. We still allow publishers to enter their own keywords and descriptions, but then we mesh the two together on the Search side of things. Basically, the more metadata you have the better your search engine will perform, generally, as long as you have a well thought out taxonomy. It takes the guess work out of the hands of the publishers, especially the lazy ones who tag everything the same.
