How can I set portal to responding 404 for invalid urls?

Portal is redirecting to the first site menu item when a invalid url is typed instead of responding with a 404 header or page.If I have a site called "Journal" and create two menu itens, as followingexample:- Home Page (Menuitem's friendlyurl = home)- News Page (Menuitem's friendlyurl = news)If I hit the following URIs I can reach those pages correctly:/portal/site/Journal/ -> home page/portal/site/Journal/home -> home page/portal/site/Journal/news -> news pageBut if I hit the following URIs I should reach a 404 page or page not founderror but portal is redirecting to the first menu item ("home", in this case):/portal/site/Journal/XPTO -> homeDo you know if there are some portal option to disable this behaviour?Att,Anderson Gulão

I believe this is a default procedure because the site is defined. /portal/site/Journal/.

If you tried /portal/site/XPTO you should get home page of the the main site (if you have multiple sites in the portal.

If you try /portal/site/ - you will get a list of the sites available to the user. Note the trailing / after site.

If you try portal/site (without the trailing /) you get the main site of the portal.

If you try /portal/XPTO you should get a 404.

I think that this a combination of your appserver setup, the webserver setup and portal. I do not know of a way to resolve the broken urls.

Hi Michael,

My main problem is only related with a invalid internal site URI.

If someone typesa invalid friendlyurl name in my site, portal should respond as 404 (page no found) instead of redirecting to the first menuitem of that site.?

Anderson,
Yes, I understand what you are asking, but that is not the default Portal action. The Portal will resort to the last point on the url that it can logically resolve.

I'm not suggesting that I agree with this action, but in a usability sense, resolving to the site's main page is better than the default 404.

I've created a custom 404 that displays the "look" of the site, but tells the user that the requested page cannot be found and provides a couple of options...Go back to previous page, go to the home page, etc.

Unfortunately it only works under very specific url errors, but in all other situations my site responds as you have described.

This may be a case to open a VOLSS (aka OpenText) support ticket.
