How to pass query paramaeters from .page file to the component present in that .page

cute_guy

Hi,

I have a .page file consisting of components.

I have mapped the .page file to a node in the sitemap.

Also have added some query parameters to the node.

In one of components is debugging with the dumpcontext method called in the external .

the debugging out printed when previewing the .page file does not show the query parameters that are passed in the node definition .

How to actually pass the query parameter from the page link url to the component which is part of the page.

Can you post what your page link looks like that has query strings?

Hi Alex,

The view source of the preview page is as below

I used the echo component in the next page to display the parameters passed and this is what shown in that page

My work with LiveSite has been "from a distance" and with version 2.2.1, but it's my understanding that, for an external component to see the querystring variables, those variables need to be defined in the component's XML, like so :
com.mycompany.myapp.myObject
getSomeExternalResults
AlexC

Since the components are by default cached, they will not see the query string after first execution.

There are a few ways to pass parameters (at least in 3.x):

Make the component non-cacheable (this should work since it will be executed every time)

OR

Include in your query: ComponentID=&submit=true
(This simulates a form submit to a component which then forces re-execution of the component)
This is quite tricky as you need to know the component's ID on that page and component ID will vary on pages, so this is not a very reliable or portable way to do it but it works.

OR

Use component to generate javascript which will then get component ID form the component itself and then generate a URL to simulate the above mentioned form submit

tec_iwov

components are cached based on the Parameters you set for the external so if the qs parameters change the component will be rerendered and cached based on the new set of parameters.

sanoboy

if in one component i want to call two external objects, methods, then how i arrange the two class

ex:

under content xml

i can not write like this
value1
value2

com.interwoven.livesite.external.runtime.Debugging

com.interwoven.livesite.external.impl.LivesiteSitMap
dumpContext
getSiteMap
need i use controllers or other method?
need your advise,thx

tec_iwov

yes you need to use controllers.

AlexC

...see below...

AlexC

Prefix is a way to call more than one external per component.
value1
value2

com.interwoven.livesite.external.impl.LivesiteSitMap
dumpContext
getSiteMap
