On change of a selection, some other field should be populated

I have a requirement like this in V8. On change of a selection from a drop down box, some other attribute (with text field cce widget) should be populated based on the selection. How to achieve this?

Can I use 'Chain Select CCE' widget for this requirement. I know how to use 'Chain Select CCE' widget if both of my attributes are drop down boxes. But in my requirement second one is Text field. What configuration should be needed for the second attribute?

As the presentation tab settings are not applicable in the V8 style editor, should I use only v7 style editor If I want to use presentation tab settings?

The settings in the presentation tab are used by the V7 UI only. To assign a custom oveerride to a widget in the V8 world you need to override the widget template, namely the jsp page which is used to render the widget in the V8 editor.
