How can I access data from miscellaneous tab in v8?

Hi,

 

I was just wondering how I can access data from the miscellaneous tab in v8.  I am attempting to implement IDefaultable for a Text Area CCE widget and can't seem to find the correct way to access the miscellaneous data.

Hi Eric,

 

firts of all, in terms of internal representation, whatever you enter in the misc tab gets stored, HTML escaped, inside the widget data  xml fragment under the key miscValue.

So, if you enter somthing like

 

<foo>pippo</foo>

 

your widget data will be something like

 

<widget>.....<miscValue>&lt;foo&gt;pippo&lt;/foo&gt;</miscValue>......</widget>

 

Said that,  the WCMBaseWidget class, which is the base class of the CCE widgets hierarchy exposes a method

 

public String getMiscValue()

 

that you can call to get the misc string.

 

Once you have the misc string you need to unescape it and to use the method you like better to retrieve the value of a node from an xml frgment.

 

When you are implementing a widget in ACE, my suggestion is to mimick what the VUIChainSelectWidget does (have a look in the appsvcs-extensions code).

What happens there is this. In the class that extends VUIWidget you override the method

 

public void setMiscValue(String miscValue)

 

inside this method you read the misc Value and you set properties of the VUIWidget class corresponding to the xml fragment nodes. This way you make the data stored in the misc available to the WidgetRenderer.

 

In the V8 world, then your code will look like the following

  foo = sz;

}

 

public setMiscValue(String miscValue){

  super.setMiscValue(miscValue);

  String xpathFoo = "/foo/text()";

  String foo = XMLUtils.getStringByXPath(miscValue, xpathFoo);

  setFoo(foo);

}

 

}

public class EricWidgetRenderer extends AbstractRenderer {

 

  public String getFoo(){

    return ((EricWidget)_widget).getFoo();

  }
