workarea permissions

Hi Gang -

We have a group for sharing for our workarea.

What we would like is for members (other than admin's) to be able to create content inside a specific subfolder. R/O access down the folder tree until their folder is reached, the FULL control once inside that folder.

We apply R/O at the top, but then when we give them FULL control on a sub folder, TeamSite doesn't work with it.

I have tried, it seems, every combination whatsoever, and nothing is working ...

Any insights?

It looks like you're trying to have a group of people work on content and still want to have permissions set on content.

One way to do this is to have a workarea for each user and set permissions for each workarea.

If i remember correctly you could use folder level permissions. Rather even submit.cfg supports the folder level permission setting, so that it is not lost with document submission.

Though it was very messy to use and would not recommend. Dividing content in the Workareas seems to be the best approach.

I am not sure if there is any change with TS 6.7.1.

"Dividing content in the workareas" is WRONG.
You can set different access rights to different workareas - but ultimately each workarea should be a reflection of the entire branch - any attempt to have some files in one workarea and not in other workareas on the same branch is a fast-track to serious problems in the future.

The submit.cfg is a reasonable solution in most cases - but again - not to alter permissions on files and directories based on the workarea - only to alter permissions on files and directories based on the directory and/or file name.
