Unable to execute commands using java.lang.runtime on Linux

Hi ,

I am trying to run somme commands on my custom listener using java.lang.RuntimeClass. My requirement is to use certain commands provided by a third party tool called Image Magic for image resizing.

When the listener is executed i am getting the following error .

java.io.IOException UnkownError 513

I tried to run simple commands like echo as well and still see the same error.

My environment is VCM 7.6 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2

I was able to run the same program on a Windows XP and VCM 7.5 environment.

Kindly let me know if i need to configure something to execute commands from custom listeners .

I don't know why you can't exec those things, but if you're trying to do this from persistence listeners in the VCM, I urge you to consider different approaches. If you're kicking off external processes and waiting for them to do image manipulation before continuing, you're introducing tremendous latency into the commit() path for managed object changes, and that is likely to have very bad effects on your server's throughput. I will look into the alternate approach but just for information sake. When i take the Listener program and convert it to a stand alone program it works fine . I see the issue only when i run it as a listener.

I tried running the command using the Runtime.exec and also tried executing a script file containing the commands.

I am trying to execute some basic shell commands from within the listener on VCM 7.6 and Linux 5.2 and it throws an exception I/O Exception unkown error 513

Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();

Process proc = rt.exec("pwd");

I have tried multiple commands and all of them return the same exception.

The same program when run as a standalone program in the same environment works fine. Do we need to some additional configuration to execute such commands from the listener or is this some bug ?

Appreciate your help on this. Please note it works on windows .
