We are experiencing poor performance when modifying certain channels and their corresponding presentation pages. The problem seems to occur on channels that have relatively larger numbers of subchannels and/or managed objects. For example, saving changes to a presentation page associated to a channel with 125 subchannels and 500 MOs takes about 8 minutes. The worst case is, of course, the home channel. On our largest site, the home channel has over 1000 sub channels and upwards of 10,000 MOs. Approving this home channel can take 45-60 minutes.
I noticed the fix VCM-28465 addresses performance concerns with changes to channels with deep subchannel structures, but it appears to only apply to changes to a channel's active status. Our problems occur with other changes as well, including approving channels, setting publish dates on presentation pages, and even configuring content components.
So my questions are:
1. Does VCM-28465 only address changes to a channel's active status?
2. If the answer to question 1 is yes, what are suggestions for getting around this problem? Is this a known issue (is there some sort of recursive processing that takes place)? Are there best practices for this? There must be larger sites out there - has anyone else ran into this?
Thanks.
