Question about unpublish a channel with contentinstance pattern.

According to document Vignettte Content Management SDK, For an unpublishing job, only the seeds themselves are unpublished.

If I unpublish a channel and a content instance associate with it, with Content Instance pattern, only channel itsself and choosen CI unpublished? How is the sub channels and other CI with this channel?

If you unpublish a channel (for which you’ll have to use thechannel pattern), that channel will be unpublished, as will all CIs associatedwith that channel, as will all subchannels (direct and indirect) of thatchannel and all CIs associated with those subchannels. CIs that are *referenced*by CIs that are being unpublished will not be unpublished (unless they arethemselves associated with one of the channels being unpublished).

Is there anyway that I can unpublish a channel but not unpublish content instance associated with the channel?

We have some shared common CIs which associated with multiple channels, we don't want those common CIs get unpublished when we only unpublish one channel.

You’ll have to disassociate those common CIs from the channelbefore unpublishing it.

When channel deassociated from CIs, it is only changed on Management stage, and CIs becomes stale, nothing happens on delivery stage. When I unpublish a channel, channel is going to be removed from delivery stage, but the CI in delivery stage still associated with the removed channel? Would this cause unpublish failed?
