Running TS as non-root
Firenze
Anyone out there who can talk to experiences running TeamSite as non-root?
I see from TS 6.7.1 SP1 that this is now available although the manual only talks about the iwutild process. I don't have a unix system available at the moment to check against, but I thought there were more processes than that, so I don't want a situation where most of the stuff is non-root except for a couple of things.
Also, some of the side effects that are documented look interesting (see below). I am assuming the last one refers to XSLT not XLST. Is this a big deal doing Form Publisher with XSLT instead of the teamsite templating syntax? Seems like a positive step from a developer's point of view.
???? Files and directories created by customer scripts through the file system interface (/iwmnt) may not have the correct ownership and permissions. They will be owned by iwts.
???? Creation of assets outside of the Teamsite environment may not be possible without the appropriate directory and file permissions. The files created will be owned by iwts.
???? The iwat triggers will not run as the user root; instead they run as the non-root user iwts. If the triggers invoke scripts that create or delete files and directories through the file system interface, ownership and permissions will be for user iwts.
???? The existing external workflow task scripts will have to be re-written by the
customer to use the URL-based workflow feature.
???? If you are running the utility daemon as non-root and invoke any workflow external tasks by mistake, the behavior of the task is not determined. The task might end up creating files with incorrect ownership since the external tasks will be run as the user iwts.
???? The templating scripts will have to be re-written using XLST, instead of the current PT compiler implementation.
