Publisher Information

Bhyravi_Raman

Hi,

We have a requirement where we need to track the publisher information of an Content Instance. Is there a way where we can find this info? Is this information captured somewhere in the system tables.

Any help on this would be highly helpful. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Bhyravi

Hello Bhyravi,

The information you have requested can be known from the VCM Application console itself. Below is an

example of it

Hi,

Thanks much for the information.

The requirement is that, I need to identify the publisher info, this looks like the last modifier information. Also, I need to capture the publishing information instantly the record gets updated to the live schema for auditing purpose.

Thanks in advance. Bhyravi

I can't remember if metadata are being published in 8.1 or if this will happen with next release.
In any case, if you need to add custom metadata to a CI, what you can do is to add a hidden attribute to all CTs and have a prePersistence event fill automatically this field for you.Take into account that you won't be able to track the user who publishes the asset. In the delivery stage you will need a listener on the deployment events to track the content published and to extract the metadata.

The publisher information that you’re looking for isn’tcaptured. Depending upon what kind of controls you have over how people canpublish, you might be able to come close to your requirement by creating jobnames that include the necessary information. But even that will have at leasttwo problems. First, I’m not sure that the job name ever leaves the mgmt stage,so trying to extract that information and add it to your deployment databasewill be difficult or impossible, depending upon your deployment/securitytopology. Second, jobs created by the scheduled publishing mechanism willobviously have their own naming convention that you can’t override, and theycan contain a mix of objects that were “published” (scheduled, actually) byseveral individuals. Figuring out who published what will be impossible by thetime the data reaches your delivery stage.

Hi,

Thanks much for the information.

Were the publishing infromation is being stored in any of the system tables?

If the publishing information is stored in the system tables, it would be helpful to track down the publisher info.

Thanks in advance.

Information about the publisher isn’t persisted anywhere. Youmay be able to get by using some sort of convention for job names (which *do*get persisted) that includes the publisher in the job name, but that willrequire pretty tight control over how people initiate publishing activity, which isn’t straightforward.
