Is it possible not to generate the additional html tags in a template

What we want to do is to generate the xml output when user clicking on achannel.However, we found even if we output xml format in the portlet override, thereare still have additional html tags which generated by vignette by grids,secondary page. What can we do to removed the additional html tags?Also, we tried to do a request forward in the portlet override, but looks thatalso not working? Is it possible to do a request forward in portlet overrideand remain the url in address bar with no change?

If all you want to do is get rid of some of the html that is generated by out-of-the-box grids, secondary pages, and other compontents you can duplicate them and then modify their jsps so that they don't generate the html you don't want and use those customized copies on your site instead.
