Hi All,
In V8.1 Data Select CCE widget have cache option in “General” tab of the widget. Is this cache in-memory cache or stored in the file system? If yes then what is the location? And What is the TTL value set for cache?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks,
Uday Bhasker J.
If there is any change to the data, I see the change immediately in the drop down. So it seems to me, it is not cacheing at all.
If you set cache to false the ReferenceDataImpl is re-executed every time. If you set to true, it is only executed the first time that you load the editor.

We are having issue with the widget, even after setting the cache to false we are not seeing new data. It is always showing the cached data.

VCM Version – 8.1
We have a custom reference data implementation which pulls in “Reg Topic” CI’s and displays in a drop down. In “V8 Editor Style” CIF newly created “Reg Topic ” CI is not shown in drop down(cache option set as no cache), where as in “V7 Editor Style” CIF newly create “Reg Topic” is shown in drop down.
Attaching reference data class.

How can this ever work in V8 ? Can't you see that the reference data is accessing the transforming widget in the request ?
I will send you a working version of it.
Is there any open VOLSS ticket about this ?

I have attached below some sample code I have written some time ago (I have included in the appsvcs-extensions).
As you can see you have two static methods that you can use to extract from the contextMap the relevant info that you are looking for.
ciao
Mario
public class ReferenceDataUtils {
public static Object getAttributeValueFromContextMap(Map context) throws ApplicationException {
Object ret = null;
try {
HttpServletRequest request = (HttpServletRequest)context.get("CONTEXT_REQUEST");
if(request != null){
Object ctxTransformingWidget = context.get("CONTEXT_TRANSFORMING_WIDGET");
String attrName;
if(TransformingWidget.class.isInstance(ctxTransformingWidget)){
//it's a call from V7
TransformingWidget tw = (TransformingWidget)ctxTransformingWidget;
attrName = tw.getAttributeDefinitionData().getName();
PropertyPage page = PropertyUtils.getPropertyPage(request);
ManagedObject mo = (ManagedObject)page.getAttribute(COEConstants.COE_CONTENT_INSTANCE_KEY);
ret = mo.getAttributeValue(attrName);
} else {
//it's a call from V8
String id = (String)request.getParameter(".vui.editor.id");
if(GUID.isValid(id)){
ManagedObject mo = ManagedObject.findByContentManagementId(new ManagedObjectVCMRef(id), RequestParameters.getImmutableInstanceTopRelationOnly());
if(mo != null){
attrName = (String)context.get("CONTEXT_ATTRIB_NAME");
if(attrName != null){
}
} catch(Exception e) {
throw ApplicationException.getOne(ReferenceDataUtils.class, e);
return ret;
public static AttributeDefinitionData getAttributeDefinitionFromContextMap(Map context) throws ApplicationException {
AttributeDefinitionData ret = null;
ret = tw.getAttributeDefinitionData();
mo.getObjectType().getData().getAttributeDefinition(attrName);
A few things that I don't like in the code:
1. the ContentUtil is a delivery API. That should never be used in code running in the VCM.
To get a site from a channel
Site site = Site.findById(channel.getSiteRef()) or similar.
2. you can avoid two calls to getAttributeValue
String channelId = cpntentInstance.getAttributeValue(....)
if(GUID.isValid(channelId)){
....
Apparently even if I don't like the code I can't see why this last version should work in V7 and not in V8. I am going to make a try with dummy data and let you know
