Problem running CLT as iwui

Hello all,

I have a Perl script (inline) that runs the iwlist CLT.

[PHP]"/path/to/iw-home/bin/iwlist" "/iwmnt/default/main/mybranch"[/PHP]

Until recently this was functioning correctly.

This morning, it is failing and looking at my logs I see the following error message:

[PHP]ERROR:02418: Error connecting to server:[/PHP]

The script is running as iwui.

I determined this by adding the following to my script and logging the value of $login.

[PHP]my $login = getlogin || getpwuid($<) || "UNKNOWN";[/PHP]

We are running TeamSite 6.5 SP2 on Solaris.

Any suggestions as to why this has started to fail would be very much appreciated.

Does it work from the command line (i.e. not from your script)?
Have you tried running iwstat to make sure the server is up and stores are not frozen?

Yep,

I can run it from the command line (as myself).

The server is definitely up.... Lots of other inlines etc working fine.

Is there any way to impersonate iwui from the command line maybe?

On solaris you should be able to:

su iwui iwlist

Hmm - strange that this happens on Solaris -- well, try the old debugging technique - dump all your environment information into a temporary file (showenv > /tmp/a) add debugging in your script to do the same into a different temporary file (/tmp/b) and compare the two files to see if there's something that might be significantly different between them.

I did:

[PHP]su iwui -c "./iwlist /iwmnt/default/main/mybranch"[/PHP]

and it ran as expected, just about to try Adams suggestion of dumping the environment variables.

I am still not sure I can see the problem though!

You'd have to set some of the Environment Variables yourself. Start with PATH and SHELL. If that does not help, continue adding them.
Use BEGIN brackets to ensure that this is done during compilation. Like this

BEGIN{
   $ENV{'SHELL') = q(/bin/sh);
   $ENV{'PATH'} = q(/usr/sbin:/usr/bin);
   ...
};

As mentioned, it was all working well a couple of days ago.

Something has probably been modified. iwui '.profile' (if it existed in the first place), default profile, default shell, who knows.

That said, in your case Environment Variables did not just disappear few days ago, they were never there. Upon shell forking IWOV
often discards System level Environment Variables - do not ask me why (it's boneheaded IMO). Have you tried to add them yourself?

Yep, just added them in and it starts working.

So If they were never there, how would it have been working before.

I'm going to see if I can isolate it to a specific var.

Oh, I took them back out of the script and it continues to work!
