I am investigating whether i can restore a index backup made using the unsupported Backup/Restore utility to a fresh 'non shared' index on the same DM Server. Or is the tool capable of creating a new index on the fly. I am looking at ways to test the recovery of an index that may be corrupted. And before tackling the production Index, I would like to get some sanity checks around the tools capabilities. Obviously i will need to be certain of the location of the corruption otherwise I guess the tool will just restore the corrupted portion as well. I am assuming that the tool has no 'smarts' for testing index integrity. Any help appreciated, I will report back with any gotchas encountered.
