Hi,We have requirement of deleting the specific type of content around 5000 ci'sin VCM(Say content A).This content may relate to some other primary CI(Say content  thorough relator CCE orcontent select CCEWhen we are deleting the content A  we are seeing that references of the CI arestill existing with a dummy value in VCM in the other primary CI.Is there any way to know all the primary CI's which has a reference to the content A.

The best is probably to deploy a listener that takes care of implementing the best referential integrity rule for your requirements.

You basically need first to decide whether you want to put in place a CASCADE, RESTRICT or SET NULL rule.

Whatever rule you want to apply your listener is first going to look for the referring items writing code similar to this

ContentInstance ci = <your ContentA ci>;

ManagedObjectVCMRef[] vcmRefArray = ManagedObject.getReferringManagedObjects(ci.getContentManagementId());

if(vcmRefArray != null){

for(ManagedObjectVCMRef vcmRef: vcmRefArray){

ManagedObject mo=ManagedObject.findByContentManagementId(vcmRef);

if(mo instanceof ContentInstance && mo.getObjectType().getData().getName().equals("ContentB")){

applyRefIntRule(mo, ci);

}

and then you need to provide this method whch takes care of applyin your ref. integrity rule

private void applyRefIntRule(ManagedObject mo, ContentInstance ci)

throws ApplicationException, ValidationException, AuthorizationException{

//here you have to implement the logic for CASCADE, RESTRICT or SET NULL

}

So, what is the rule that you want to apply ?

In VCM 7311, I have used below VCM API to get the referring and referredcontent items.

ManagedObjectVCMRef[] moRefArray = ContentManagementOps.getReferringManagedObjects(ci.getManagedObjectRef().asManagedObjectVCMRef());

ManagedObjectVCMRef[] moRefArray = ContentManagementOps.getReferredManagedObjects(ci.getManagedObjectRef().asManagedObjectVCMRef());

The rule what we want to apply here is..

Once we have all the references we will update the content B either to remove the content A or replace content A by some other content so when we delete the content A still content B holds good .

Please do *not* use ci.getManagedObjectRef().asManagedObjectVCMRef()

you should use use ci.getContentManagementId().

It is not the first time that I see this piece of code so I believe that it has been copied and pasted across different projects many times

Please CORRECT THAT CODE and don't spread it around anymore

Ok, so you just need to put your custom logic in the sample piece of code I sent you. What you might wish to do, probably, is the following:

1. if the attribute holding the reference is required and belongs to the top relation you might wish to delete the CI

2. If the attribute holding the reference is required and belongs to a nested relation you might wish to delete the relation

3. if the attribute holding the reference is not required you might wish to set a null value in it

In either case you need to walk the referring content instance to find the references. can you write this piece of code ?
