I had heard one of the new recommendations coming out with TS 6.7.1 regarding backups was the ability to backup the iwfs drive. My understanding was this was not supported in previous versions of Teamsite and would like to see if this is something that we should investigate as we upgrade to 6.7.1?Do you perform this as the store is frozen? Any other backup recommendations? The Backup whitepaper that was on the 6.7.1 upgrade best practice had a 2001 timestamp on it so I wasn't sure if this was still the stance.
Hello, First, I know this is basic for some people, but never hurts to re-state. No content is stored on the Y: drive (or /iwmnt on unix) because it is only a representation of the content in your backing/content store. So, you will never want to back-up your Y: drive.
The exception could be the workareas, though, right? At least that is how I take this statement in the 6.7.1 System Administration Training manual:"This is somewhat redundant, but in practice you'll find that the workarea backups are very fast and create small backup sets, since the workareas contain only a fraction of the total data of the entire store."
Hello, I am going to try to answer this as thoroughly as I can. I am not aware of a new feature in 6.7.1 related to back-ups, but if you have a reference or link, I can try to find more information around it. I have spoken with a technical support engineer to gather more information around best practices for backing up content in TeamSite. First, I know this is basic for some people, but never hurts to re-state. No content is stored on the Y: drive (or /iwmnt on unix) because it is only a representation of the content in your backing/content store. So, you will never want to back-up your Y: drive. To backup your Content store, the recommendation is to stop TeamSite and make a copy of the backingstore. There are links below about the content store (aka backing store) and best practices for back-up with a third party solution. It is also possible to freeze TeamSite and take the back-up, but stopping, making a backup and restarting is the cleanest method. You can also make a snapshot of the filesystem the backing store is on after stopping TeamSite if you don't want to wait until the backup finishes to restart. Please let me know if this is helpful, or if you would like more information. Yes, but if the user wants to restore an individual file, instead of the WHOLE backing store, it is possible to backup the virtual drive.
