I think its a problem with permissions, eventhough G2 has permissions to the said folder, the same cannot be accessed as G2 does not have access permission to its parent folder.
Thanks for your reply. We have verified the permission of the parent directory and it is 775 with group being G2 - so that should not be a problem.
There is a folder within the workarea that has 775 permission with group being G2. Now, this user belonging to group G2, but does not belong to G1 is not able to import files anywhere in the workarea.
could you clarify this point .. which group was mentioned in the shared property at the workarea level (G1/G2).now where are you trying to import the files at workarea level or into the folder which is owned by G2 under workarea level--Phanie
Hi Phanie,Workarea is shared by group G1. The folder we are trying to import file is a subfolder several folders deep within the workarea and has rwx permission for G2.Thankscgi
this is really strange, G2 being a member of group G1 and we getting that error then I would say this is not related to permissions. I myself am lost.--Phanie
G2 is not a member of G1. G2 and G1 are two independent groups. The user having trouble is a member of G2 and not G1. The workarea is shared by group G1 and deep with in the workarea there's a folder owned by group G2, but the user is not able to import files to this folder. Hope this is clear.
Ok this is what you say now or rephrasing your situation...Could you please do this .. make group G2 a member of G1 in unix groups and try importing the files. If you get the same error as before I might be wrong.--PHanie
AFAIK there is no concept of nested groups in UNIX. We have put in a request to add the user to G1 to see if that resolves it - and thanks to the bureaucracy - it takes a week to get this done - so while I'm waiting for the results I just wanted to know from learned members of the forum to see If this is the right solution or something is amiss here. Thanks
The other solution is upgrade to TS 6.7.x and use TeamSite Groups for managing the access to branches and workareas -- they allow for nesting and you can manage them from within TeamSite instead of having to go through the bureaucracy you seem to be facing ... though given that (and the fact that 5.5.2 has been unsupported for more than 2 years) ... there may not be much luck getting the upgrade done either ;-)
Thanks for your reply, fish. Yes, we hope the upgrade happens soon btw, the issue was resolved after the user was added to group G1.Thanks all for your help!
