Automatically adding items to a user's shopping cart.

Here is something we would like to do, and maybe someone here can provide some insight as to if it can be done.

First some background. We presently have a program that scans for changes made the previous day, and sends certain users email notifications to inform them of the changes. In the email is a link to bring them to the specific folder that contains the changes.

We would like the link to bring them to the shopping cart, which would contian the changed items, instead of just have them link to the folder with the changed items.

Question:
With API code, can we automate adding items to email as shortcut, and sending the emails to specific users, so that when the user clicks on the link, they will go to the appropriate items? is there a sample code that might point me in the right direction?
