Max number of files to be attached

Could anyone confirm if there is any limit of maximum number of files that could be attached as a part of a workflow. We are looking to attach some 500 files to one workflow. Will there be performance issues. Has anyone ever have to attach so many files to one workflow.

There is no defined limit. However I have seen issues with the apache timeout (5 minutes) for several hundred files being submitted at once. That is also for a WF that has a significant amount of script before hand (I do not allow a file to be in 2 jobs at once, so I check each file to see if it is attached to a job). That is time consuming.

All you can do is give it the smoke test (try it and see if it smokes) :-)

If you do reach the apache timeout, changing it is different in 6.7 than it was in 6.5, so it depends on your TS revision.

Make sure that you

a) Do not pass attached Files as Command Line arguments. Without following setting external tasks may fail with
"Too many Arguments" or "Maximum Command length exceeded" Error.

iw.cfg, Section [workflow]
external_task_add_filelist=false

b) Note that the setting is global, all Workflows will be affected! Therefore all External Tasks, not only those in the Workflow
you are planning should use TeamSite::WFtask::GetFiles method to obtain Attached Files List

Changing the apache timeout in 6.5 requires the NT resource kit and editing the registry to increase it from the current 300. You can get the details from IWOV support.
