The basic answer is that Digimarc maintains its own database of copyright holders and you will need to negotiate with them to get a license. They will give you the necessary strngs to populate the MediaBin parameters.

I do not have Adobe Graphic Server (AGS) installed on Mediabin to have Watermark Added Tranformer. Based on the documents it seems these watermarks will not appear on retrieval. Is my understanding correct?

My interest is to add a permanent Watermark to the images in the MediaBin server.

The only transformer visible is the Digimarc. Looks like even for Digimarc we need to buy license as per Lyman.

We do not have AGS installed hence I tried using the method given in 141-144 in the Task User Guide. I made the following modifications (given in the attachment) in 6 different places in c_PostUpdate.tsk file.

The watermark.tif file is a transparent tif image copied to the Config files folder. I was expecting the uploaded images to automatically have the watermark.tif. But, nothing happened. I even tried restarting the MediaBin server. Nothing worked. Could you please help me.

After I updated the c_PostUpdate.tsk. I restarted the server. I uploaded the image to the mediabin folder. Initially I uploaded a jpg image. The Job history for that is:

if you are Adding a task , that use Water Mark adder Transformer , it should use AGS OR

if you are Adding Watermarks on a System Level , it will add

watermarks to the
thumbnail previews of assets as they are inserted into the repository

NOTE: (Adding Watermarks on a System Level )

Watermarking is this way is system-wide and cannot be disabled for selected assets

Watermarks can only be added to single-layer images or single-page documents.

The Watermark Adder is only available if AGS is installed on MediaBin.

I am not using AGS. Hence Watermark Adder is task is not appearing in the list of transformation task.
Hence, I made the changes to the .tsk file (in system task folder) that is attached.
I dropped the .tif file in the config foler.
I expected Mediabin to add the tif image as watermark.
It did not. Then I restarted MediaBin hoping it would work.
It did not.

Could you review the .tsk file and check if the changes are correct? I do not know what is alpha channels I gave

To be clear for anyone who happens upon this thread, there are three different primitives discussed here:

1) The Digimarc generator handles the insertion of invisible watermarks. designed to work with Digimarc's database. This is the system that requires a licesne from Digimarc.

2) The Watermark Adder primitive. This primitive uses Adobe Graphics Server to insert a watermark in the form of a PSD file onto a single layer file. It can be used on insertion or retrieval.

3) In 4.6 and beyond a watermark can be added to all layers by setting the watermark parameter for the thumbnail generator primitive. This is done by editing the PostUpdate task in the System Tasks directory. This watermark applies to all layers, only affects insertions and does not require AGS. The other property to note is that MediaBin generates 6 thumbnails ranging in size from 16x16 to 512x512. Therefore this parameter can potentially occur in the post-update six times enabling one to make a choice of watermarking all or just some of the sizes and possibly even changing the specific watermark at each size (e.g., text in a watermark is likely to be illegible at 16x16 or 32x32).

I leave you to the documentation for the specifics.

Below I extracted your watermark parameter except I removed the filename so as not to broadcast the name of your internal servers to all of DevNet!

Basically this appears to be set up correctly, however I have some comments:

a) I am not sure if it was in the process of converting .tsk to .txt but the filename when I downloaded had a carriage return in the middle of it. I suspect that should prevent finding the file. try to make sure the editor does not wrap!

b) I am assuming that the Tiff when viewed in a program like Photoshop shows up as transparent (i.e., you can see behind it). If it is simply a picture you will get a better result by setting opacity to something other than 255 because then you will get a thumbnail that is all watermark! You can also play around with the blend modes.

c) I suspect you may want to set "stretch to fit" to "true". The same size watermark is unlikely to look good for all different sizes. Potentially a customer could have different sizes per preview size.

d) depending on your use case you may want to remove the filename (which essentially removed the watermark) from the last couple of images that represent the very smallest views (e.g., 16x16, 32x32).
