Update Task for whole workarea

Hi there!

I have a business requirement that a workarea gets copied to another workarea. The user does not select any files, so there are no files attached to the update task. It makes sense that the update task then does not work. Question is: How should I approach this? Should I create a datasource to get all files in a variable? Will a Script in JavaScript deal with this? Or should I put into place a DeployTask instead? BTW: This customer will not use Perl for deployments.

Any ideas?

If you are updating files to another workarea in the same branch, then figure out a way to use the update task. You do not want to deploy or copy the files over because then the versioning will get hosed and you may end up with conflicts on the submit.

If the proper files are not attached to the job, you can attach them during an external task. You can also run iwupdate as an external task, which will take everything. That is not a great approach but it may work for you.

You may also leaverage the "copy to" functionality from the menu or through a script that is executed as a external task.

I though, iwupdate is used for copy to command? Is that what you were referring to?
