tpl not working

WhenI try to preview with this tpl file. It gives an error saying look in utild log file. I looked in iwutild.log but could not find anything. So whats wrong with this code? and how to debug it ?

Also, you really do not need the iw_pt tags or the XML tags.

try making this as the second line of the tpl [html][/html], remove the last line and try debugging the tpl from command line, and i can also see second td in the second tr has a typo

Question: why do we need to run iwpt_compile.ipl for simple tpls too. Cant we use preview option from GUI. It might sound a silly thing for everyone here but just wanted to understand the exact purpose of it. If the tpls are complex compiling from command line makes sense for debugging.

Preview is great when the TPL works, however if there is an issue, many times preview will just show a generic error. You can also glean more information from iwpt_compile than gets placed into the utild log.

Finally for really hard issues, you can insert print statements into the iwperl sections of your TPL and get an idea of the data and the flow to see where an issue is failing.

The code for the cell after POSITION appears to start with "cr." instead of "dcr." - is that a typo in the forum posting or in your actual code?

With respect to changing the second line to <iw_pt/> -- if you do that, remember to remove the last line (e.g.: </iw_pt>) as it will no longer be needed and cause additional errors if left there. However the suggestion for changing the second line will not really serve any purpose in resolving your issue as it has nothing to do with it - it is only a stylistic suggestion (personally, I tend to not use the iw_pt tag at all in my PTs, but that's me)

Other things you might try include removal of the XML header you have there, and/or augmenting or replacing it with a valid HTML or XHTML DOCTYPE header -- though again, I don't see how those would fix the issue you're reporting.

Speaking of which -- you haven't really provided the full text of the error message you're seeing, and you didn't supply the full TS version information (I believe it has to be at least 6.7 since I don't think utild exists in 6.5 - but it would be nice to know if this is 6.7.0, 6.7.1, 6.7.1SP1, etc.)

It certainly could be a number of things, the link in the previous post could be the issue. Do you have special characters in your DCR ?

Try running iwpt_compile from the command line for more information,
