I am trying to take an existing store (ie. c:\iw-store\some name) re-name it, and keep it in same location. Basically we built a large store with many branches, then decided we wanted to change to name of the store. Is this an easy process, or is it tied to SID's, which gets tricky?

I *believe* all you need to do is deactivate the store, rename the directory of the store and then re-activate the store. The first and last parts would be done with iwstoreadm, the middle part would be done at the file system level. If you have anything in your iw.cfg file or any scripts and such that reference the old store name, you'll have to update those too.

As long as you are not moving the store from one Windows box to another, you have no need to worry about the SIDs or uidmap.

Actually we are now discovering some issues with the name change....

In TeamSite 6.0 ContentCentre Standard the My Favorites portlet groups by workarea. It is grouping the old and new favorites under seperate headings. In our case the old links continue to work, as we were only changing the case of the name of the store. However, in most cases changing the store name would 'break' these favorite links I guess.

Just something to consider if you are doing this to your production system...

Yes, I believe that those favorites are stored in the entity database, which is independent of the store. So if you renamed the store then your old favorites are likely to break. Probably not a show-stopper, but something your users probably need to be notified of before the move.

BTW - the original post came in LONG before I became active on the board, so it's probably silly to say this now, but, it doesn't look to me like Fish's reply actually answered the original question. Fish's procedure allows for moving the store, thus changing it's name. I believe that the original request was to rename the store without moving the actual content. That would actually be a slightly different procedure:


Edit iw.cfg and add the line
store_directory_NewStoreName=path_to_old_store
to the [iwserver] section
iwstoreadm -a NewStoreName
iwstoreadm -d
