Content Archiving

hi All,

We are in process of defining content archiving strategy for our site. As usual, business requirements are automated as much as possible, easy to locate the content, easyo archive the content, display the content in appropriate way on web as well.
In the current state, to automate the whole archiving process using TS 6.7.1 seems to be lots of custom code to us. Will there be any other tools from IWOV we can consider for this purpose. Any suggestions we should take care while carving out this strategy..

this can be done is so many different ways, i dont think IWOV provides such a tool. but i have seen people who just put a date tag in the content, and they have a script that runs every night, or once a week, checking the date tag and if it is older than 2 months, then the script will move the content to an archive folder. this is done in a special workarea. after the archiving is done, the script will "submit" and "publish new edition". this is just simple senario to archive web content. but i am sure the expert on here will suggest to you more sophisticated way to do it Smiley Happy

Yes this leads to custom scripts development where you need to manage content references and when you move the content/documents you need to fix the references as well which is not a straight forward task. Further as part of this, you need to manage whether content is already been edited by the user..so I was thinking of some automated solution here which can be very useful because it will be a common scenario for number of sites..

How exactly would you define 'archiving'?

I would think that archiving is one of Teamsites strong points and comes out of the box.

Well no, if you create an edition and then remove a file/directory it's still 'archived' within Teamsite.

It's all a matter of definition.

But definition of Archiving for me is what I explained earlier....What are the best practices for the same

i still dont fully understand your case. but for our case, archiving is moving files (expired promotions) which should no long appear on the customer's website. the expired pormotions are already not visible on the website, but we still move them to an archive folder (which doesnt get deployed) to minimize the amount of content on the IIS servers. this was taken in consideration in the early stages of the website, so we dont have broken links or references when we move the files. the example i explained in my previous reply does the job. i think your senario is unique case, so i doubt if you will find a tool (out of the box) which will satisfy your needs. therefore, start writing your scripts Smiley Happy
