JQuery and Firefox

I am trying to use jquery to call a web service. This works in IE but I am getting an "$ is not defined" error in Firefox and it just sits there.

This is the code in my js file:

$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "http://.....",
data: findString,
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
dataType: "json",
success: function(msg, xhr){
parseStudentInformation(msg); },
error: function(xhr, msg){
alert("Error Importing Student Information. Please contact..."); }
});

Does anyone know who to get this to work in Firefox?

Thanks

When you get the “$ isnotdefined error”, it’s almost always because
the "jquery.js" file has not been included or your reference to it is
pointing to the wrong location.
Try to make the reference absolute instead of relative.
