hi, 3 part question...

1. i'm looking for a way to force a boolean field to be read only for certain users, or be read only for everyone except certain users (who would have full or read/write access). can this be accomplished through nrs scripts? or some other means?

2. when that boolean field is checked by a user who has full or read/write access to it, can one of the date fields be checked automatically so it records the date the boolean field was checked?

3. after the boolean field is checked, can there be a record of the user who checked that field? i know there's "history" of modified profile, but it doesn't actually record what was modified. is there a way to capture that history?

or rather, if we just use the date field to represent the boolean field, can that date field be marked read only except for certain users?

i am still looking to record that particular though, when that date field (or boolean field) is checked, can it record the user who checked it and the action that was taken rather than just "modified profile"?

The SetAttirbuteValueByID (Dlg) is the method used to set a value to a field as well as mark it read-write or read-only. The first argument of the method accepts the attribute id which represents the field, the second one accepts a string which is the field value, and the third is accepts a Boolean value where true is read-write and false is read-only.

The attributeID Enum table has the attribute id's (along with the numeric values representing the id's) and it's documented in the Visual Basic Scripting for WorkSite Dialogs.pdf.

Find the numeric value that represents the attribute id (which maps to the profile fields) then call the SetAttributeValueByID Method to set the field value. You should able to use the OnChange event of the dialog for initializing as well as udpating values; thus in this event, you can check the value from one field to determine the value of another, and to set it appropriately. To look up a field value, use the GetAttributeByID(attributeID) Method.

Both methods are documented in the same Visual Basic Scripting for WorkSite Dialogs.pdf. This manual is distributed with your SDK installation.

You can make use of the AdditionalProperties (IManDocument) to keep your custom records. This property returns a read-write name-value pair collection.
