Caching with Personalization

Hi,

We are having user based personalized data to be displayed via content publisher portlet. But the issue is when we enable caching for this componets, it doesnot show personalized content, it always shows same cached content. And if we disable caching for this component then we dont get at par performance.

Is there any ways to keep caching enabled and show the personalized content? I m sure there would be some way, its just that I am not aware. I would be great if somebody can point me in correct direction for this situation.

Hi Deven,

The parameters which are included in smart list condition will be used in cache key generation. So, if you are able to use personalized parameters in query condition then that is fine. If not, you need to extend component and override cache key method.

Hi,

Please, before approaching this, consider the amount of personalization on your site against the size of your user base.

Adding personalization to your cache key will mean a dramatic increase on disk usage (if you are using DefaultObjectCache) and correspondingly dramatic decrease on your cache hit rate. You may end up with zillions of HTML fragments on your cache that are never being reused.

If you are using a cache implementation with on-disk size control (ObjectCache) you may fill up your available cache space with useless objects, which will not help with performance.
