How to handle different HTML representation in portlet?

Hi,

 

We have one portlet which output the data in some specific HTML.

Now we want to re-use the same portlet but we want to output the data in some other format.

We were thinking of few solutions, like:

1) Creating a seperate view for representing same data in different format.

2) Create a portlet chrome and using CSS change the output to desired look and feel, but in this approach the underlying HTML will still be original.

 

Just wanted to check, for this purpose what is the correct approach? If option-1 is correct approach then how can we default user view to custom view.
