'SyntaxError' after I override a widget JSP. How to debug this?

I have override the widget vcm-widget-objectselect by provoding custom jsp. I have added this JSP in the theme.

After that during the display of the widget in the content item form, I am getting 'SyntaxError: syntax error' alert message. I don't see any erros in the runtime logs or VCM Server logs. How to debug this error? Please see the attached screenshot.

The JS in your JSP is syntactically not correct. Use JSLint (http://www.jslint.com/) or your IDE to check if there are any JS errors in the JSP.

I see this error for anything in the JSP. I tried by removing all the JS, I tried removing everying expcet single line, I tried even making the override jsp completely empty, still I got 'Syntax Error'.

might it come from java code ? Did you compile your jsp ?

If this is not the case, might the js rrror srise from an included resource ?

The custom jsp has a context "/content": did you pack your jsp in the vcm-ui.war ?

If not, provide the right context to your custom webapp.

What happened if your jsp is as simple as

Thanks Mario. I am good now after I rename the custom JSP, after rename it seems the JSP got compiled. Yes I put the custom JSP in vcm-ui package.

If I put the custom JSP in a separate webapp, how can i include objectselect.jsp? Should I copy objectselect.jsp to custom webapp?

the appsvcs-extensions build shows what one should include in a custom webapp. The vcm-ui is not meant to be modified, since you will be losing all your changes when you apply a patch.

Consider that the most part of issues that I have seen in my life ended up depending on deployment problems : having a good starting point to build custom webapps is important and helps not incurring into the most common issues.

Said that, I am happy that you solved your problem. It is up to you the decision of building a better webapp
