Out-of-Date Page Elements

When I click on edit for component, I get following message

"This page contains out-of-date templates or components. Click "Update" to preserve page customizations for selected elements. Click "Overwrite" to completely replace them.

All Out-of-Date Elements
Template: Component Page"

When does an element become out of date ? Does it mean that some of the elements in the template has been updated by the interwoven ?

If I click on update , will teamsite automatically change the out of date elements and put the existing info in new element ?

Element become out of date message comes whenever any component or template of a .page file updated or changed.
It is not updated by TS itself.

If I click on update , will teamsite automatically change the out of date elements and put the existing info in new element ?

TS will update the component/template with latest version at STAGING.
There are two option for updating:

Update Selected
Overwrite Selected

That's description is given in docs and also can find in Help menu.
