Set Label Value in dropdown (TS 6.7.2,Win 2003)

I am fetching some values from Database (using forms api and then doing a callserver) .These values are the Option Objects created in the CGI script called by callserver.

My problem is the correct values of cities are getting populated based on the state selected in the dcr but when i save the dcr and re-open in edit mode only the values of the options appear which are different from the label initilally selected by the user. This confuses the user.

How can I set the set back the label of the option in dcr's drop-down.

I have attached te required files. The formsapi part is coded in my datacapture file itself.

If the select list is getting created dynamically, then you have to make sure the exact same select list is created when you open an existing DCR with an existing value as when you create a new DCR with no pre-existing value.

If you don't - then you get what you are seeing - the value stays but there is no corresponding label for it or any other item in the intended select list - so all you get is the value from within the DCR which is used as both value and label for the field.

The solution that I see for this is, on my DCR(in edit mode) load I get the value of the item(drop down) and do a call server to create the list again then fetch the label of the value pre-loaded in the dcr.

But I think this is too much work around for a small thing like this. What solution do you suggest?

FormAPI on load is pretty much your only option. Since this is dynamic (an inline call will not know what state was selected so inlines will not work).

If you are smart about how you write this, you can reuse the code. Or you can write it over and over again, each time somewhat differently

Two things to try out:

1. Put a check on calling the populateLocations() function, calling it only when a city has not already been selected. In this case however, only the selected value will be visible in edit mode and user would not be able to change it. You have to check if it matches your requirements.

2. Before calling the populateLocations() fn, check if there's already a selected value, if yes, store it in a variable and append to the final list of options that you need to populate your drop-down.

First look for existing value and then while populating the options in the dropdown add this attribute selected=true for the value which is existing.
