Advanced Search EA key dropdown

I have a requirement to enhance the Advanced Search interface to provide a drop down of searchable keys in conjunction with a Tagging interface enhancment to provide the same values in a drop down to use when tagging a file.

As an example: If I have an EA where the user tags a file with a content type (types defined by my users) I would like to have a drop down available in the third column of the file attribute section of advanced search from which they could choose an internally defined content type to allow them to get a return of all files of that type.

Additionally, I would like to have this drop down populated from something (flat file, xml file) that can also be used in the tagging interface.

Any thoughts on the feasibility of fulfilling this requirement and what documentation to look at?

If that was my assignment, I would've tried to customize 'iwhome/httpd/webapps/content_center/ccpro/workflow/advanced_search.jsp' JSP Module.
[post=110063]This[/post] post illustrates how to do this sort of things, note that it's semi-supported at best.

I never tried to customize this particular Page but for what it's worth... Do not add new elements to the 'search'
Form, add custom drop-down components outside of it. On submit, check if something has been chosen there by your
user and concatenate with standard search tokens. Consider modes where that may not be applicable, etc

you can add Additional EAs that are used in the tagging ui pretty easily using FieldMapping.xml file

i am not sure if you can have this drop down menu coming from (flat file, xml file) other than FieldMapping.xml . my guess is that you can not do that

you might face an issue with the order in which those EA appear in the drop down menu which is awkward and doesnt make any sense. i tried to customize the labels in which the EA appear before but wasnt successful there. i wish i could have a word from Interwoven on this that would be great.

Let me try to clarify a little.
I know (if I'm correct) that I need to:

1. Edit the file iw-home/local/config/datacapture.cfg to affect the tag GUI to allow for the taging of generated files with a new EA.

2. Edit the file iwsearch-home/etc/FieldMapping.xml to make the EA's available to search against.

What I'm missing is how to create a drop down like the "Business Unit" drop down in the tag interface and then to provide that same drop down as a means of input when doing an advanced search. So - the same values in a drop down in both the tagging interface and the advanced search interface for a custom EA.

So let's say that my new EA is "Original Content Source" and that I want to limit the values and present them in the tag interface via a drop-down. I then would want to provide the ability to search against this value with advanced search and provide the same values in a drop down to populate the value to search for.

So - my question is - where can I define these drop downs and their values to be used in the tag interface and the search interface? Any examples?

It looks like iw-home/local/config/datacapture.cfg is the file to change to provide the drop down of values to tag with. Now to discover the file to edit to allow the use of a drop down to populate the value to search against for the EA.

That is true for pre 4.1.2 tag ui .. not sure what tagui version you are using. if you are using 4.1.2 Tagging GUI then u need to modify tagui.cfg file(s) under \iw-home\local\config\tagui\rulesets60 directory

Thank you for that response but I'm still looking for that elusive file(s) that I need to edit to provide drop down values for search criteria in advanced search. Note: I am trying to provide drop downs in the 3rd column. As an example - choose to search for "Original Source" in the from the first column, choose "All Words" from the second column, then provide a drop down of pre-defined values for the user to choose from in the third column.

"I checked all possibilities for configuring the Advance Search screen. It is not possible to customize that screen with any custom code changes. I can open a Feature Request for this issue which will be in corporated in next releases of TeamSite. But I can’t provide you the solution right away."

This seems to me like something that should be fairly simple to customize and that a lot of customers would want/need this: the ability to give a predefined set of values to search against for a custom EA.

Do others agree?

It seems reasonable to add a FR that increases flexibility in configuration - yes.
I would not assume (as the support person seemed to indicate) that the FR would get into the next release - it might, but that's not a guarantee.
Anyway - you should probably get the FR filed, and then post the FR number here so that others who are interested, can register their organizations with that FR too (which will help to get it addressed in the next release)
