Storing documents in TeamSite

Alyssa

Hi all,

I’ve been asked to build a website in TeamSite that contains mainly links to PDF documents, there will be about 260 documents per year and in total their size will be about 500 MB. My question is “is teamsite the best place to store these documents?”. I’m just worried that building too many sites like this in TeamSite will have a negative impact on performance. Anybody have a particular view on this?

many thanks,
Alyssa

I did this a number of years ago. A major electronics supplier having thousands of PDFs, DOC, etc off of their product set. No issues with respect to the performance due to the PDFs.

We ended up using MetaTagger as well since it was able to parse and categorize the data very well and save a great deal of time for the contributors.

Alyssa,
You can opt for what Andy said or there are so many other solutions with different Interwoven Products like Worksite, Desksite and so on for document management. I am sure almost all of them can be integrated with Teamsite. Your best bet would be to have your manager to contact Interwoven Engineer not a sales guy to find which product best suites your company.

Thanks

A solution to your concern would depend on following factors:

1. Max size of individual files that are to be downloaded by the user(eg. if a file is of size 150-250 MB alone, better download it from a FTP server than from Teamsite). However, for PDF documents, their size maybe comparitively small, but for very frequent downloads, it will be a hit to Teamsite performance.
2. Teamsite should preferably be used for managing content and not assets. If the number and size of assets is manageable going forward(considering new versions are uploaded frequently), you can opt for Teamsite for storing and versioning of documents but not otherwise.
