Merging on field into another?

We have a "Description" field that turned out to be a dud, usage-wise. But we did have it used 500 times and would like to retain that data by moving it to Keywords (appended). Is that possible?

Idea is we'd like to remove the Description field, but move the existing data to Keywords.

There's no simple answer in this case, however writing a script that:

1) Searches for occurrences of Description.

2) Retrieves the keywords for these assets.

3) Updates the keywords to add the new value.

The layout is complex and the SQl that would accomplish the same thing would be at least as complex as what is described here and much more dangerous!
