All,

I ran into a sudden issue and wanted to see what I did wrong. I am configuring a split Oracle database with WEM8.1. I was given to understand that with a split database, the HAS_DATASOURCE has to be set to false on the Preview instance. Both the local Preview instance (VgnPreviewServer) and the second Tomcat Preview instance on the same host, both had theirs already set to false.

In ploughing thru' the Config Guide, I came upon page Page 93 - "8.2.1 Enabling the First Preview Application" in the Config Guide.

In there, it says to set has.DataSource=false in the "Resource - VgnExtTemplating Resource" Generic Resource. I did that. I restarted all the services. And now, I see two problems:

(1) "Publishing endpoint mgmt (6128b8693325b310VgnVCM1000005db1d38dENPT) is Disconnected." is dislayed in the SysConsole

(2) I do not see a vgn-ext-templating Generic resource in the ConfigConsole. It has just disappeared.

So I need them all back. How do I go about this next?

Actually it said to set the has.DataSource=true. But I set it to false in the hopes of getting SampleSite to work.

I am thinking I'll do a cfgedit on the Config Agent's vgncfg.properties, do a cfgsync (or copy) the vgncfg.properties file down to the local Preview instance's working directory and I should be back to where I was. But I'll wait a bit until I proceed - I'll proceed with caution here.

The setting change you did in VgnExtTemplating Resource has nothing to do with the 2 issues you are seeing.

There is something else wrong with you environment. I don’t know what, but it definitely is not related to change you did.

The HAS_DATASOURCE configuration variable must be true in the management stage, at least in the in-DB version used by the VCM, or you will get weird hang conditions depending on DB flavor.

Thanks so much for your tips. And for the timely resposnes. So short of restoring from a backup, is there anything I can do to get a vgn-ext-templating GENERIC resource?

Nick, Smaple Site does not render properly, and apparently for a split database, I need to set HAS_DATASOURCE=false. I am on the same tought-plane as yourself. How can HAS_DATASOURCE be false on the built-in Preview server? But maybe I am mis-interpreting things.

Please let me know if I can do something other than a restore from a backup.

The database is not built-in. I am using an external Oracle split-database configuration. The Oracle server is hosted in a different location.

HAS_DATASOURCE attribute value has to bealways "1" on the management side, otherwise VCM will not workproperly. Summary of the HAS_DATASOURCE property from configconsole -

Variable that reflects if a data source is configuredfor the application services. Generally, a generic resource of Datasourcetype is created for mgmt stage which uses a application server datasource.For a delivery stage being created in a servlet mode, there is no needfor a datasource resource since there is no application server contextbeing used. Default value is '1' for management stage and '0' for deliverystage.

Yes you can create vgn-ext-templatinggeneric resource manually(if you know the correct set of name,value pairs),if you don't want to restore from backup.

Did you get any error while restartingthe Endpoint?

Thanks for the note! I do not have the name, value pairs. How could I have done this better? Do you think doing a config space dump would capture all the existing configuraton values? I am looking for a way to checkpoint the installation before I proceed with more actions.

So say, if were to re-install WEM8.1, would it be a good thing to capture a config space dump every so often?

I don't have any configuration references that I can fall back on. Also, would such a config dump give me the key,value pairs of configuration variables that you are talking about? And could the config agent be pointed to a previous configuration to work with those values?

Yes, It is always a good idea to take configdump. Config dump will capture all the information which you see from configconsole.

If you taken backup of the as.cfg fileever, you can get the values from the cfg file. or if you have any cloneenvironment similar to what you are working on that you can copy genericresource from clone environment and replace all the references to yourworking environment
