e-mail workflows

Is there a way to configure a computer to send e-mails for the assign task? I saw it done before and completely forget how to do it. I just want to send the e-mails internally on my PC, not externally.

This is most commonly handled by adding an email task to the workflow. Consult the TeamSite Workflow Developer's Guide or workflow training materials.

You could even have an external task inserted in the assign workflow to call your custom script for sendmail routine.
