Insert rows into relator table via api/code

Hello,

I am writing a run once code to populate a relator table using existing items to be used in a ctd. I have obtained the ids of the parent and the 'child'. My idea is to use the GUID to create a GUID for the row and insert a new row for each pair into the relator table. This is intended to be a 'one and done' operation.

Do we have any API to actually insert rows into a relator table? Any examples?

I was able to figure out the code to access the db and insert the rows.

For anyone else who needs to know, the snippet needed is

            Connection cnx = DriverManager.getConnection(url, user, pwd);
           Statement statement = cnx.createStatement();
            int pf = statement.executeUpdate(<your constructed sqlStatement>);
           statement.close();
           cnx.close();

This is not the correct way to add/update relation values to existing content instances. You should be using WEM API to do this and not JDBC API.

Here is how the code will look like if you want to add to existing relation in content instance.

Close, but this is not correct. This line:

AttributedObject attr =ci.getRelationInstance("RelationXMLName");

is wrong. For one thing getRelationInstance() is an internal API not intended for client use. More importantly, it doesn’t even do what you’re suggesting it does with this example and the parameter you’re specifying in this example is not what the method expects.

To add a new sub-relation row to a content instance you must construct a new ContentRelationInstance and add it to the content instance. Replace the line above with:

ContentRelationInstance cri = new ContentRelationInstance(ci.getObjectTypeRef());

If you want to add a new sub-relation row where the parent is itself a sub-relation row, then this all works recursively to any arbitrary depth. That is, for sub-relations of sub-relations, instead of adding a new ContentRelationInstance to the ContentInstance object you add a new ContentRelationInstance to the ContentRelationInstance object that is the parent sub-relation row.

Ok, here's the deal, I have an existing CTD with hundreds of CIs. I want to convert one attribute from a static select to a relator. So we are going from one table to three tables for a CI - the original, the relator, and the table relating to (which has its own ctd and ci).

I'd like to do this conversion programatically, and not manually.

I was thinking I could create the relation table and populate it with the correct data and then convert the CTD. Will I need to do any coding so that the relations are set up elsewhere in the tables?
