Auto-Replicate of an item

Hi all,

Requirement:
I had a master XML for each product family stored with its key features. Now i had to provide a Product DCT for user to add/update/remove the features for every product under the specific family.

Problem:
If i had 5 key features for a product of a specified family, i need to auto-populate 5 replicants in product DCT. Also, this auto-population should be done on change of product family drop down within Product DCT.

Any help or suggestion would be highly appreciated.

I have done this before & it is rather complicated. Basically the child DCT is a shell with replicant of all the possible entries. Upon open the child runs a callserver to read the master DCR which defines what fields are valid & then passes a set of arrays (which define the fields, labels, regex, required, initial values, etc), back to more complex formapi which builds the proper DCR.

This probably took me a month to get all the possible combinations working, but now allows someone non-techical to define new children and not need a new DCT.

One thing that does not work, is the adding of new fields to existing DCRs (without a little manual intervention). I have not tried to fix it since these are few and far in between.
