Lock & unlock files in wflows.

I have created a workflow, the author initiate it by the creation of a New Data Record. Once DCT is created the tool ask me if I want to submit it for approval, and I click on "yes". So I login again but as an Editor to approve or reject the file and appears with a lock, so being an editor I can't edit and correct the file. Why? To the author after the DCT is created he can see his own file with a Key instead of a lock, what is the difference? I don't understand why the editor as he has more privileges can't edit the file, what I supose to do??

you could be a little more specific, but I think you can start by looking up to the "User Task Attributes" in the wf manual, specifically the section that says:

Readonly - Specifies whether users can add, remove, or modify files in the task (can be
true or false).
In your case you would want it to be false.
If this has nothing to do with your problem, please post your wf as a attach.

I am assuming that the Author and Editor are in the same workarea as you did not mention a submit task before the approval step.
In which case the problem might be that on creating the DCT it is locked as it has just been edited. One way around this is to include an external task before the Editor Review task. This external task will check what files are attached to the Workflow and then unlock then. I know that version 5.5.2 comes with a unlock.ipl in the local/bin, and I think it might come with 5.0.2. That .ipl will do the necessary.

Well the author and editor yes, they are working in the same workarea and I didn't add any submit task before the approval step in my Wflow. What I don't really understand is why the tool ask me to send it to approval teh new data record I created if I didn't assign that file (New data record) to my workflow??

And also this is what appear, what is the meaning?, I create the file with another role (admin) and also some files, After that I gave to that workarea some permissions to a different roles (author2 and editor2) and I login with those new roles and see the WA and the files locked appear like you can see below...I think I'm getting more mixed.
I'm sorry I can't send the file, gave me an error, what appear is a locker with a pen.

The difference between the icons? this is covered in the TeamSite User's Guide and TeamSite Author's Guide (Appendix A in both cases) as well as in the on-line help available through the browser interface and covered in the introductory Using TeamSite courses. If you truly don't understand the difference between the icons and why they are the way they are - please either re-read the manuals or sign up for a class.

As I believe was pointed out in another response - the defualt OOTB author_submit_dcr.wft, which is probably what you are running - sets the Review task to be "readonly" - thus it shouldn't matter if you, as Editor, have the lock or not - you should still be able to review the work. If you want to make changes to the DCR itself, you will have to modify the wft (recommended procedure is copy the existing one to a new location, modify that copy, and then change the available_templates.cfg file to refer to your new copy) so that the Review task is not readonly.

Huh? You said that when you closed the Edit DCR session, it asked if you wanted to submit it for approval, and you said "yes" - thus the DCR that you were editing was automatically added to the workflow that was instantiated at that point in time. If this is not clear, please, please, go through a Using TeamSite training course (see http://www.interwoven.com/services/training for more details) - otherwise you will be running into questions like this every step of the way and causing yourself untold frustrations and delays.
