Optimost Tech FAQ
System
Her are some frequently asked questions pertaining to the technology side of Optimost:
What displays if the user doesn't have JavaScript?
Default content. See “What is “Default content”?”
What displays in the unlikely event
Default content. See “What is “Default content”?”
What is “Default content”?
Default content comes from what is inside the span tags of the module code in the template. This should be the content that you would serve had you not been running the experiment. In almost all cases, this would be the same content as the control/benchmark that is part of the experiment.
To understand what your default content is specifically, you can go to the test page itself and append “sticky=x” where “x” is an invalid creative number (in other words, one that is not being served). Ensure that what renders in this case is acceptable content, in the event – for example, a user did not have JavaScript enabled. If you have any doubts, please consult with the Technical Consultant that set up the template for the experiment.
What displays if the user has JavaScript enabled but doesn't have AJAX?
Only AJAX is incompatible with old browsers. Optimost doesn’t rely on AJAX and consequently, Optimost is compatible all the way back to Netscape Navigator 4.7.2.
What will spiders/search engines, particularly Google, "see"/index when they access the page?
They will only be able to “see” the original default page code; not any of the values that we render from the template. Spiders and crawlers do not execute JavaScript.
Does Optimost have any adverse affect on an SEO campaign or pose any risks of getting “Blacklisted”, with all of the different creative versions running at once?
No. Since search engine spiders do not execute JavaScript on a page, there is no affect on SEO campaigns.
