OS user comment on TeamSite gui

We recently migrated to TS 6.7.1 SP1 on RH Linux AS 4.
The TeamSite display name uses the OS database gecos user comment field.
The user comment from the gecos field (/etc/passwd) is very long and that fwhen displayed on TS GUI, hides the "Logout", "View User", "About" and "Help" buttons.
Also our organization's user id management process doesn't allow us to truncate the gecos field in /etc/passwd file.

Does anyone know the steps to make OS user id as the display name on TS GUI.?

Please share the snapshot of TS UI and one of the roles file (Admin / master). let me understand first.

I'd suggest contacting Support - my guess is that when they implemented this feature they didn't expect anyone to be using the gecos field for anything other than the user's actual name - and they might not have provided a means for disabling or modifying it.

Yeah this gecos user comment is inserted by another application, from our intranet.
Wanted to know anyone happened to dig in on similar stuff in the past.

They asked (or suggested?) you modify the cssdk_doc.jar file? That doesn't make much sense to me - especially if they didn't provide you with detailed instructions on what you were to modify (but again - it's a doc jar file - so it doesn't make much sense).

If there is a problem and you call support the first thing they will do is ask you to restore the old jar. Also, when you upgrade you will need to make certain that you incorporate those changes into the updated jar.

Is it worth the effort ?

Yeah! as per the call with IW support, I 've to change all the links that point to OS gecos and then write a java code to let it look at the user id.
I'm trying with the OS guys to reduce the user comments and still not break our security rules :-)

you could do that with out chaging /etc/passwd file..but this more fo a bug that the engineering team should have given the flexibility in changing the Gcose field.

Here is cheat to do the same, but not supported by interwoven.
remove the user details field (the one that is read from /etc/passwd which is not customizable) using the following steps:

Please follow the given steps to hide the username:
1) comment out the "" present at
\httpd\webapps\content_center\ccpro\common\navbar. inl
2) Rename "web_no_jsp.xml" as "web.xml" and reset the server

U can play around with visibleName by simple Java string APIs to modify it from waht in /etc/passwd
