VFE space character issue

Samir_Friend

TS6.5
Unix

Whenever I paste some text containing spaces in the VFE, it recognizes the spaces but when I preview it, the spaces are displayed as "Â" characters.
For this I tried to replace my actual spaces in the text with

tag in the text's HTML but then the VFE is behaving unpredictably - it sometimes cleans up the

tags in all content's HTML and sometimes leaves it as it is when I preview it.

I want my VFE to either accept the space characters in the text and display them as

when I preview it; OR
I want to stop the VFE from cleaning the

tag.

Any help regarding this is much appreciated.

I believe that there's a non breaking space character in UTF-8 that, when viewed as latin-1, is displayed as "Â".

So, what are you outputting in preview. Does the HTML page declare itself as UTF-8?

The problem below has been solved.

The VFE eliminates the

for its HTML text and displays nothing both in WYSIWYG and HTML views. Also, it displays these spaces as "Â" characters in your browser.
It is reportedly a bug in VFE.

Here’s the workaround:

1. In the below piece of code in your visualformat config file, change the charencode value to “charref” if it is UTF-8 or something else.
mswordfilter="true">

span
div
font
script
…………………………
This would give you an output of

wherever there are extraneous spaces in your pasted text.
2. I’ve then handled it in my TPL file to pass the content to a function in utils.pm which replaces the

with

3. Also, in your TPL, set

for the very first line.

Your browser will now display the spaces given in the VFE as

in the source and as a space in its presentation!

Thanks for the help.

Hi Samir, can you try this in your VF config:
<clean charencode="utf-8" cr="cr" lf="lf" showonsize="5000" preferfonttag="false" reducetags="false" showdonemsg="false" prompt="true" hideobject="true" mswordfilter="true">

Hi Samir, can you try this in your VF config:
<clean charencode="utf-8" cr="cr" lf="lf" showonsize="5000" preferfonttag="false" reducetags="false" showdonemsg="false" prompt="true" hideobject="true" mswordfilter="true">

If I use this value of charencode my VFE doesn't give me an output for the space characters that I could manipulate. Besides, the reducetag attribute also doesn't seem to work in my VFE because the space tag is being cleaned up by it everytime now.
