Branch Migration from Server to Server

Hi All,

Here is what we did couple of days back:

1. We have a Server (UNIX) which is running TS6.5 SP3 (Sever 1)

2. We built a new Server (UNIX) which is running TS 6.7.2 (Server 2)

3. We did a content backup (followed all the rules like content freeze etc) and copied over to the new Server 2.

4. We did user and group migration.

Now I have a branch having issues writing logs and filelist to the logs folder.

Can we do a iwmigrate -b from Server 1 to Server 2 for the above branch?

Do we have to delete / rename the branch in new Server 2?

Kindly advice.

I am not sure why you are migrating content stores between different version. The typical way that I have handled such migrations is to do it to the same version and then upgrade the new server to the latest version. That will minimize any such issues. I am not sure if even iwmigrate will resolve the issue that you are facing.

i believe iwmigrate is made to handle migration between versions.
i dont think you can use iwmigrate between servers, but it might work if the drive on your new server is shared and you map to it from the machine where you run iwmigrate.

i think what you did is correct and it should have worked. however, if you dont need all the editions and history, you can just create a new branch and workarea then deploy latest edition from your old server to a workarea your new server.

can you be more specific about what logs you are having trouble with? are they custom log files, or teasmite application logs?

I'm not sure what that first sentence means - can you elaborate?

You can do an iwmigrate between servers, but I think those versions may be close enough that simply copying the store should be fine (check with Support though). What I tend to do is mount the copy of the older store on the new server as a temporary second-store and then do the migration completely on the new server - however, you may need to delete/rename the branch on the new server in order for the iwmigrate to work.

That being said, I think the first sentence needs more explanation before you attempt to do the iwmigrate - as that may be a complete waste of time.

For your question, we have a deploy.ipl file, that is triggered via WF and this ipl file create logs under a branch WORKAREA logs folder. Looks like the logs folder is corroupted. I renamed the logs to logs_temp and created a new logs folder. Now eveything looks good.

I am pretty sure the iwstore on the new UAT is 100% pure. I will let know my support guys and let them work on that.

Do you actually version your log files?
If not - they have no business being stored within a branch.
