Hello,

I am working on a mobile web app version for one of our content types. I have set up the mobile view in cms, and have it working and all. What I have not been able to determine is how to get the 'live' version of the new mobile view. What is the url for that?

Thanks,
Christine Howell

By “live” version of the mobile view, do you mean to say, viewing the content in the context of a page/your app ? or viewing it on production stage ? The url would be depending upon your configuration (say, if furl is enabled or not, your WEM version (8.1/8.5 etc). If you are able to preview any format, you should be able to switch to other formats as well through your page incontext controls (if it is your management stage).

Hi,

I am referring to our delivery stage. I am on 8.1. We do have furl enabled and have our regular site working and all. What I am looking for is how to set up our mobile view. I can preview it on our management stage but don't know how to get the mobile view rendered. What is the url for mobile view?

Thanks,
Christine

Hi,

For a page to be rendered in a format other than the default format, it needs to have a page template associated (channel editorà page presentation tab).

If you have done that and are able to preview the default view for the page on the management stage, you can use the format switcher in the tools window to switch to other views (say “mobile”) as can be seen in the example screen shot below.

If you are on 8.1 and have furl enabled, the automatic furl links for formats other than default are of the below form.

host:port/<SiteName>/Home.<formatName> ( For home channel )

host:port/<SiteName>/ch.<channelName>.<formatName> ( For all other channels )

host:port/<SiteName>/<channelName>/ci.<contentInstaceName>.<formatName> ( For content instances ). channelName will not be a part of the link if the instance is associated to Home channel.

The delivery side links are also of the same form and it is just the host/port which changes. Please see if this information helps.

Thanks and Regards,

Deepak.

Thank you. I do get all that. What I don't get is how people will change the actual url so it doesn't reflect the default url that is generated. We have default and mobile. Our default is our website version and we have furl for that in the form host:port/channelname/contentname where channelname and contentname are defined in the config console to be:

channel.name.attribute=furlName
instance.name.attribute=furlName
furl.space.encoding.char=+
formats.registered.formats=default, mobile

and furlName is in our CTD and automatically generated based on the name of the channel or content Instance. This helps with our desired url. We also do use vanity urls.

I am not sure how the furl takes the default url of ci.<contentInstance>.default to our instance.name.attribute. All I do know is that our url is based on our attribute definition above. Now, I am wondering about how to handle the new mobile format url of

www.franklin.edu/furlName/ci.furlName.mobile so we convert this url to something a lot more 'user friendly' such as m.franklin.edu/furlName/furlName (with the main difference being the m in place of www).

Am I making sense?

Hi,

I now understand what exactly your requirement is. However, IMHO, the way out is to have your own custom mapper which will print the links in the expected manner and resolve such links too. More information about how a custom mapper can be implemented and deployed is available under chapter 11 of the OpenText Web Experience Management 8.1 – Dynamic Site and Portal Modules Developer's Guide.

Just for your information, this kind of url format ( m.franklin.edu/furlName/furlName ) is supported OOTB in WEM 8.5 with some configuration changes.

Thanks and Regards,

Deepak.

Thank you...that was what I was afraid of. Do you realize how lousy the documentation is for that? It'd be really nice if the documentation made references to real-life examples. Just reading the basic function description doesn't provide any insight as to what is what.

Cheers,
Christine

Can anyone tell me where to find this:

Open Text Web Experience Management API Reference which is:

A Javadoc reference of publicly available Web Experience
Management API to customize and extend the Web Experience
Management, Management Console and Web Experience
Management Management Services (CMS) functionality

Thanks.

dsarada

Hi,

The WEM public API Javadocs are available in knowledge.opentext.com. Hopefully you have access to them.

Thanks,

Deepak.
