Does installing vcm security certificates slow down site performance?

HI,

We have recently installed security certificates on machines running vcm and other configuration agents,

Can this impact site performance as what we've come to know that there is a complete reindexing of content which can slow down performance.

Can anyone confirm if this can happen please.

I don’t quite understand your question. The installation of the security certificates do not involve any action on the search engine integration.

Even if it did, any impact would depend on your architecture. By design VCM server itself does not have any part in content delivery so it can only have a performance impact on your site if you are serving your site from the same boxes where the VCM Server (management) is installed.

If by installing vcm security certificates you mean updating the certificates that expired recently -- no, that will have no effect on site performance whatsoever. And even if it did, by default the certificates are only used for a few, relatively rarely used functions (config changes and by the node manager) that the performance impact would never be noticed.

If you mean enabling SSL between WEM components, that will have some performance impact on the WEM operations, but generally won't slow down your end-user site. Publishing, for example, might be slower.

If you mean enabling SSL on your end-user site, yes, that will generally slow things down to some degree.

And like Tomas , I'm not sure how the search engine factors into this question. Merely updating the certificates or even enabling SSL somewhere should not requiring re-indexing of anything.
