adding files generated by multiple streams
Johnny
Hi,
Is there a quick/efficient way to determine all the files that a template has ultimately generated?...
The background to this ....
There is one main template for a news section that generates a news detail page. Part of this news section includes and index page which is generated by a template include with another stream. There are other parts of the site that could be generated, but its not determined until generation.
Essentially when i run iwgen i must know the path to the detail page, but i want to find out what other files have been generated, so that i can attach them to the workflow.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

You can call iwextattr to read the metadata on a generated file. Files generated by templating will have name-value pairs like this:
Y
iwextattr test1.html
TeamSite/Templating/Encoding=
TeamSite/Templating/PrimaryDCR=test1
TeamSite/Templating/PrimaryDocumentType=news/zoo_news
TeamSite/Templating/PrimaryPT=zoonews.tpl
This tells you the type, DCR used, and the PT used.
Call this in a recursive script to check all the files in a directory path. Warning: this is not fast.
Faster method is to use DataDeploy to pump the metadata into a SQL database, and query the DB. Much more scalable for large implementations.

Alternatively, if you can use the iwpt_compile command (instead of iwgen), it has a -manifest option that will tell you all of the files that were output. Unfortunately, it does not set all of the EAs that Bob described. You would need to do that yourself.
A feature request (34806) has been filed to add a -manifest option to iwgen.
NOTE: This question belongs in the Templating forum, not in Workflow.

Thanks guys,
The first two options were considered, but file tranversing isnt a very nice solution, and unfortunately data deploy isnt installed here as yet.
I might wait around for that feature request
Thanks again

You might get an acceptable performance with Bob's approach if you limit the search to those files that have been modified in the workarea. Typically this will be of a reasonable size.
